That Big Screen in the Sky

My father (2005 June 17) coined a most gentle and useful phrase that I would like to remember and use in my personal testimonies. He spoke of "that big screen in the sky".

When a person's life in this world ends, his body falls dead and his soul or spirit devolves to the eternal world. If by the grace of God through faith he is able to cross that great gulf that is prepared to swallow the darkened soul (Helaman 3:29-30) or to escape once engulfed (Alma 36:16-21), his immortal soul lands in the presence of God where he is brought to view the thoughts, words, and deeds done in his mortal life on "that big screen in the sky".

If a person lives in this world oblivious to eternal thingsfaith, hope, and charity, that big screen in the sky will show quite a few startling and embarrassing things that will cause eternal torment. And if a person humbly seeks his Father while in this mortality, he will be privileged to view (Alma 5:15) by degrees that big screen in the sky while yet in the flesh, and turn by degrees from his sins (Sanctification, Moroni 10:32), and receive daily light and forgiveness (Justification, Moroni 10:32), that he may walk daily in the light and at the last day he may view that big screen in peace and rest.
